The design of Japanese packaging came around when farmers started selling lunch sets to train travelers. They would prepare rice balls, with pickled radish and then wrap them in bamboo sheaths. They would also wrap up the produce in materials that could be seen through, like with rope so the consumer could see the product before they brought it.
It has a simple design, with minimal amount of materials, and is very organic looking, giving the image of fresh and good quality. They used organic materials e.g. bamboo, leafs, straw. Materials that they could find around their location.
I find the packaging the very pleasing to the eye, and very delicate. I feel that it would be very exciting and a positive experience in just receiving and opening the package, not just for what is inside.
