Prototype One

Using my first idea of the briefcase type design, with two doors on the outside. I decided to make a net and start building it.

Firstly, I drew out the basic shape of design, and then drawing a very basic net. I then decided to draw out the design and cut it out on paper so I could get a more 3D idea. The above image shows the three steps I took to get the net how I thought I needed it. I used different colours to show the different sides, to make it easier for myself to see and workout what goes where.

The next step was to make it out of cardboard to see how it works with a different material. Also it helped work out the kinks in the design, so where the attachments would go inorder for it to stay together.

When I got home I went back to the paper and started working out actual measurements for a better design. The above is a rough sketch to show the elements. The red is the attachments I need to include in the new design. The green is the doors on the box.

After the rough sketch I made a template out of paper, that was more to scale, of how I wanted it. The shape needed to change from the original. The sides needed to be taller, in order to fit a bottle in. Even though this wasn't to scale it was still a good idea for me to get an idea of shape.

This was the result of the net that I put together earlier. At first glance this was a success, it worked out the way I wanted it to work/look. But unfortunately, once I worked this out, I realized that I couldn't make attachments in order for the box to stay together. This is obviously a massive design flaw, and means I have to go back to the drawing board and work out a different idea.
