Food For Thought

Here are three observations of videos that I have watched:

A) Coke and Packaging

1. It is important to make sure the product gets to the consumer in the same way it left the factory.

2. 5 and half million dumpster trucks of waste gets dumped at landfill in the UK every year.

3. 0% of the waste from that particular Coca Cola factory goes to landfill and in the next two years, as a whole company they want the same thing.

B) Clever Little Bag

1. Shoe boxes account for millions of tons of waste

2. By not using the red shoe boxes they will reduce the use of cardboard by 65%

3. Will save 20 million joules of electricity.

C) UPS Courier - Sustainable Packaging Video

1. Ensure you have packaged the item enough, so that is protected and gets to the consumer how it should of - these prevents the item being thrown away if broken on delivery.

2. Do not package the product in something that is bigger than it needs to be, by making the packaging smaller so it fits snug around the product, this means more packages can be put into one truck to deliver them, using less fuel.

3. Choosing the right materials to pack your product in. Using corrugated card, is the most recyclable card in the UK, meaning it is the best material to use.

D) Plastic Wine Container

1. How to fill a 1.5L wine pouch, which is the equivalent to 2 x 750 bottles, instead of using glass bottle etc.

2. Still the label on when the pouch is flat - rather than full.

3. You need to expand the pouch with air, as it is made flat, unlike glass bottles which are already open and allow air through it.

E) Coke Plant Bottle

1. The next step to true sustainable packaging

2. Made from 22.5% plant material and 25% recycled plastic

3. They are 100% recyclable so it can be used again and again saving resources and decreases the reliance on fossil fuels.
